The Vacancy Board is a special municipal body established to ensure local government remains fully operational when an elected position becomes open. Composed of the Board of Supervisors and one appointed resident chair (listed below), the Board convenes only when an elected office, such as a supervisor, auditor, or tax collector, becomes vacant before the term ends and the remaining board members fail to reach a majority vote on a replacement within thirty days. By stepping in to cast the deciding vote or appoint a qualified candidate, the Vacancy Board keeps municipal governance running smoothly and ensures residents retain continuous, uninterrupted leadership.
