To coincide with National Fire Prevention Week, October 5th-11th, the Township Fire Companies are announcing a North Whitehall Township Citizens' Fire Academy.

Why do so many fire trucks go to a call?

Why does a fire truck go to a car accident?

What kind of training do volunteer firefighters have?

Are our township volunteer fire companies prepared to handle my emergency?

Why does the fire company show up sometimes when I call for an ambulance?

The North Whitehall Township Citizens' Fire Academy is a program that has been established to answer these questions and more. One night a week for six weeks, your Township volunteers will teach you how they do their job. For the first time, citizens will be able to gain classroom and hands-on experience to help them understand what being a volunteer firefighter is all about.

The Academy will be held Wednesday nights from 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM for six consecutive weeks. The first night will be October 8, 2008 at the North Whitehall Township Municipal building, 3256 Levans Road.

Topics to be covered in the Academy include fire extinguishers, firefighter personal protective equipment, CPR training, rescue and many other aspects of emergency training.

To register for the Academy, you must live or work in the Township. For registration or information call Darlene at 610-799-3411.
